Brewers Out-duel A’s
5/4/08
Pitching dominated when the A’s took on the Brewers on Sunday, May 4th. Neither of the two teams’ batters could figure out the opposing pitchers as the final score was 1 - 0. The Brewers managed to plate just 1 run, but, in the end, the 1 run would prove to be enough to earn them a win. The loss is the first suffered by the A’s this season as they drop to 2 - 1.
A’s on the Mound:
Zack Culler and Steve Shanahan were at it again Sunday with another dominating performance on the mound. Culler gave up just 1 run, which was unearned, on 2 hits in 4 innings. In an effort that would normally be more than enough for the win, Culler picked up a tough loss, moving his record to 2 - 1 on the season. Steve Shanahan held the Brewers at bay, giving up 0 runs on 4 hits in 4 innings.
A’s at the Plate:
Stifled by the Brewers pitching staff, the A’s picked up only 2 hits the entire game. Steve Shanahan reached on an infield single in the first to pick up the first hit for the A’s and Ross Smith singled in the third to get the only other hit of the afternoon. The A’s did, however, manage 8 base runners by picking up 5 walks to go along with the 2 hits. No A’s runner made it past second base.
Game Notes:
C. Bennett (neck), J. Cox (broken gum bone), and K. Gantt (wrist/flu) did not play due to injuries.
On Deck:
The A’s next game is scheduled for Wednesday, May 7th at Leonard Rec Center. They will be playing the Orioles. Start time is scheduled for 7pm.
